Q: I recently attempted to sign in on my Facebook account and received this notification. I find this quite disturbing to say the least and, of course, I refuse to send my personal information.
I have also tried to find contact info for Facebook to no avail. Is this legitimate? Yes, Facebook asks for this in some cases. At all. Maybe someone tried to claim your profile. Maybe your login password failed too many times. You should try logging into your account from another computer or at least another browser Chrome vs.
Safari or whatever. If this is unsuccessful, and you decide you want to keep your Facebook account instead of creating a new one, you can take the next step. I looked and there is a link as earlier stated in the top right corner of the HuffPost. It appears you can create an account with an email address. So if you want to create an account using that process and deleting your Facebook account perhaps that is a better solution for you.

Posted 19 September - AM Hello. Posted 19 September - AM I don't use facebook either but obviously you don't want to submit the ID that they are looking for. Posted 19 September - AM This is scamware Also, you're not the first one asking that kind of question and Facebook might indeed ask for a such thing.
Posted 19 September - PM If they do ask Posted 19 September - PM Though Facebook is very popular, this is a good example of why I stay away from it. Posted 19 September - PM Facebook is a "must have" for so many people they can get away with this type of thing. Edited by packetanalyzer, 19 September - PM.
Posted 19 September - PM This happened following a lot of identify theft situations on Facebook I think, so now they're taking precautionary measures. You don't even have to be on Facebook to be victim of identity theft, anyone can steal your identity there and you wouldn't even notice it.
This is one "doubtious" security measure I agree, but in the end, it might help prevent your identity to be stolen in the future. I think this new concept only applies to new accounts however. It needs to be enabled, otherwise anyone could get a verification SMS sent to their phone number and access your account that way. Posted 19 September - PM I understand the reason they are doing it.
